The Cupboard
I love cookbooks, I love recipes, and I love cooking. I also love being able to find a recipe when I need it! So, here is the way I organize my recipes. I struggled with the best way to do this for a long while before I decided on the "Binder Method." I knew this would work best for me because most recipes I get that are not from cookbooks, come from my printer. Either from recipe sites, bloggers, or my email, they all end up being printed on standard paper. This is precisely why a recipe box would not work for me. Now, I have a lot of different recipes that come from different sources as previously mentioned. I usually remember a recipe by where I got it. I knew I couldn't properly organize everything into one binder and still be able to find everything. So this is the system I came up with. The photos explain how I do it.
A few things I have to do to keep everything in order are: I always print out a recipe I think I will like right away. Otherwise, when I go to look for it later, I will never be able to find it in cyberspace. Also, I am working on getting a photo with each recipe. Recipes in the "recipes to try" binder have to be cooked and liked, THREE TIMES before they graduate to the "tried and true" binder. Last, I have a divider in my "tried and true" binder marked "holidays." I think it is important to note, because some things are remembered simply by that.
How do you organize your recipes?

I found it!!! I LOVE your storage system for your recipes. That is one area that I am always wondering what to do with it and I love the way you have done it.

this is such a great idea fellow san diegan! i NEED something like this as i try to grow my domestic skillz cause I am over what i cook now!
Very impressive, Lil! I am going to take your lead because the recipes I clip from magazines and print from blogs are an unorganized mess! I love your tidy, organized system! Happy to see the Halloween Snack recipe made it into your "Tried and True" binder! :) Sweeeet!
I have a very similar method except that my "to-try" recipes are in file folders in one of the bigger accordian folders. I need to get some magazine organizers to straightne mine up. The only ones I leave intact are my Taste of Home and Penzey's ONE magazine. The rest I tear out the ones I want to try and throw the rest. The magazines are the recipes I go back to the least.
I have two binders at the moment. One is for recipes that I have made and like and will make again. The other binder are recipes I have found in magazines, bloggers or online. I also use tabs to divide the recipes up into categories. Thanks for stopping by!

Wow! You are really organized. I have tons of recipes, magazines and books, too, but have always wondered about how to keep them organized. Love your system. I'm going to look through some of your recipes. I have a food blog, as well as, a family one. If I use one of your recipes, I'll link back to you.
BTW, stoppping by from Say Hi Sunday.

My recipes are "organized" in a stack on a bookshelf.
Maybe I should rethink my system...
Just stopping by from the blog hop... I can barely cook, so needless to say I am quite impressed :) Have a great day.
Hi there! I found you through the Sunday blog hop.
I am definitely going to try this organization system...my "system" is a little chaotic right now. I'm especially loving that you have the rule of cooking and liking a recipe three times before it goes into the Tried and True binder. Thanks for sharing!
I'll be following!

Impressive! I like the tried and true idea...I think I will borrow that one. I started (trying to keep) keeping pictures and recipes on my computer and then printing or backing up onto disk. I'm following from the blog hop. Amy @ http://mommetime.com/
You are so organized! I am in awe! =)
